NBA

2011/12 season (rookie)

In the run-up to the 2011 NBA draft , ESPN television expert Chad Ford described Morris (196 cm) as the tallest real point guard in the draft. Darius Morris was drafted on June 23, 2011 at the Prudential Center of Newark, New Jersey, 41st by the Los Angeles Lakers, his hometown. The Lakers decided against supposedly better available talents like Josh Selby or Isiah Thomas to draft a player from their city. On January 11, 2012, he played his first game for the Lakers, in the game against the Utah Jazz Morris was 13 minutes on the field. He was able to record his first four points, two assists and 1 rebound in this game. Due to an injury to Steve Blake, Morris was in the rotation of the Lakers for 7 games. After all players were healthy again, Morris was no longer needed and consequently assigned to the Los Angeles D-Fenders, playing in the NBA D-League, on March 7, 2012. He made his debut with 21 points for the D-Fenders on March 10, 2012. Due to consistently strong performances, Morris was called back on March 16, 2012 in the NBA squad of the Lakers.

Morris agreed on a new contract on July 2, 2012. Morris was part of the Lakers team, which played the Las Vegas NBA Summer League from July 13-22. He led the team on points and assists. Due to the injuries of Steve Nash and Steve Blake, Darius was on November 13, 2012 for the first time in the starting lineup of the Lakers, where he played until December 4, until Chris Duhon took over his starting position. When Steve Nash returned healthy to the starting line-up on December 22nd, Morris first started as a small forward instead of Metta World Peace, which was part of coach Mike D'Antonio's concept of allowing players to play in positions for which they are not predestined . On January 4th, Metta World Peace took over its starting position again, at the end of January Morris lost his rotation position to Jodie Meeks and the recovered Steve Blake.
