Darrian Douglas

Darrian Douglas (* around 1985 in Jackson , Mississippi ) is an American modern jazz musician ( drums ) .

Douglas took classes in his hometown at the age of eleven at the Academic and Performing Arts Center with Perry Combs, then with Alvin Fielder , London Branch and Chad Anderson ; the latter two also acted as his mentors. In 2008 he moved to New Orleans, where he played with Greggory Agid ( Mystery Blues ) and was the drummer in the Ellis Marsalis Quartet, with whom he made a guest appearance at the 2011 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (recording). He worked in New Orleans in the 2010s with the formation he directed The Session (with Stephen Lands, James Partridge, Austin Johnson, Jasen Weaver), with whom he also made his first recordings ( This Is Who We Are , 2012); The album Collusion followed in 2019 . At the end of 2012 he moved to New York City, where he a. a. played with Jason Marsalis , Fima Chupakhin, Sergey Avanesov (among others in Smalls ) and with Bria Skonberg ( Into Your Own ).

In 2020 he is a member of the Corey Wallace DUBtet; He also continues to lead The Session and the Darrian Douglas Unity Band , which includes Jon Beshay (tenor saxophone), Willerm Delisfort (piano) and John Sims (bass). In the field of jazz he was involved in six recording sessions between 2012 and 2018, most recently with singer Kristina Koller ( Perception , 2018), EP At the Poli Club (2019). Douglas taught percussion classes at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. He can also be seen in the musical documentary One Note at a Time (2016).
