Corey Wallace

Corey Wallace (* around 1990 in Baltimore ) is an American jazz musician ( trombone , composition , arrangement ) of modern jazz .

Live and act

Corey Wallace studied at Penn State University with Mark Lusk (trombone) and M. Dan Yoder (jazz studies). During this time he played in their Philharmonic Orchestr, their Wind Ensemble and the Center Dimensions Jazz Band . He continued his studies at Towson University in Baltimore, where he took classes with Jim McFalls and obtained a Masters in Music in 2010. He played with Brad Linde and Joe Herrera's Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra in the early 2010s . In the course of his career so far he has worked a. a. with Benny Golson , Nicholas Payton , Esperanza Spalding , Robin Eubanks , Lee Konitz , Billy Harper , Valery Ponomarev , Jason Marshall and Marc Cary , further outside of jazz with Lauryn Hill , Kim Burrell , Bilal , Antone “Chooky” Caldwell and Marcus Johnson .

Wallace has taught at Penn State University, the Baltimore School for the Arts, Harlem School for the Arts, and the New York public school system. He lives in Brooklyn, where he runs the Corey Wallace DUBtet . The band currently (2019) includes Brent Birckhead (alto saxophone), Keith Brown (piano), Ryan Berg (bass) and Kush Abadey . In the field of jazz he was involved in three recording sessions between 2012 and 2018. Currently (2019) he also plays in the Charles Blenzig Group.
