Jason Marshall (musician)

Jason W. Marshall (born April 20, 1983 ) is an American jazz musician ( baritone saxophone ) of modern jazz .

Live and act

Marshall moved to New York in 2003 and took classes with Hamiet Bluiett , Ronnie Cuber and Gary Smulyan . He has since worked with Derrick Gardner & The Jazz Prophets, Delfeayo Marsalis , Joris Teepe as well as in big bands and ensembles such as the Charles Tolliver Big Band, the Dr. Lonnie Smith Octet, Roy Hargrove Big Band and in the Craig Bailey - Tim Armacost Brooklyn Big Band. At the end of 2006 he self-published his debut album, Overt Negritude , on which u. a. Jared Gold , Tom Guarna , Jerome Jennings and Elliot Mason, Saunders Sermons, Vincent Gardner were guest soloists. He also toured Germany with Abdullah Ibrahim & Ekaya.

In the 2010s, Marshall et al. a. at Arturo O'Farrill & The Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra, with Andy Hunter ( Think Like a Mountain ), in the Oliver Lake Big Band, Irvin Mayfield & The New Orleans Jazz Playhouse Review and in 2019 in the Mingus Big Band . In the field of jazz, according to Tom Lord , he was involved in 19 recording sessions between 2006 and 2018, including a. also with Hilary Gardner ( The Great City ) and in the Michael Leonhart Orchestra ( The Painted Lady Suite ). Marshall taught in the jazz studies program at the University of New Orleans .

Marshall Leo Parker , Nick Brignola and Bruce Johnstone are among his influences .
