Age rating |
Darxide is a shoot 'em up that was released exclusively in Europe in 1995. It is the last video game released for the Sega 32X .
Gameplay
It is based on the classic Asteroids from 1979 and shifts the game to the third dimension .
The player slips into the role of an astronaut to protect human colonies in space from aliens and asteroids with his spaceship . This has to happen within a certain time limit per level . Special attention should be paid to the asteroids, as they can break up into smaller chunks and thus represent a further danger. Sometimes useful items such as energy packs and better weapons are also included.
development
Part of the programming team worked on the game Elite , released in 1984 . Darxide is one of the few 32X titles that uses texture mapping .
reception
At the time of release, the game received pretty good ratings. Many were surprised that an exclusive development for the already "dead" 32X extension appeared.
- Mega Fun 3/96: 63% (graphics 71%, sound 77%)
- Video Games 2/96: 72% (graphics 78%, sound 50%)
In the “Classic Test” of the Maniac , the test result is as follows:
"Cheap" Asteroids "clone in jerky 3D graphics, with stupid opponents and hardly any change."
Today Darxide is considered to be one of the rarest and most expensive 32X games.
successor
In February 2003, a revised implementation for Symbian and Microsoft Windows Mobile was published under the title Darxide EMP .
