My father's secret was a production by Studio Hamburg Produktion GmbH . The client for the new telenovela, which was set in a soap and perfume factory, was ARD advertising . The head writers of the series were Markus Stromiedel and Frank Hemjeoltmanns. Karen Müller was responsible for the chief executive. The shooting took place from July 3rd to August 29th in Hamburg (studio) and Wismar (external shoot).
My father's secret was the first daily series to be broadcast in 16: 9 widescreen format . Due to the unsatisfactory ratings for the station, the series was not continued.

The focus is on Jule (27), who is returning from Berlin to her hometown of Wismar because her father has disappeared. With all her energy she throws herself into the investigation, meets her great love and uncovered a family secret to which she herself is the key.
