content
In 1980, during construction work in the south of Jerusalem on the outskirts of the suburb of Talpiot, a family grave from the time of the Second Temple was uncovered (see Talpiot's grave ), which was examined by Israeli archaeologists. Initially, the finds were not of particular interest. The found burial vessels, so-called ossuars (bone boxes), were handed over to the antiquities authority. After that, construction work continued and the access to the tomb was filled in.
A team investigated and re-examined the ossuaries. Names were engraved on six of the stone vessels ( epigraphs ). The names that are said to have been on the ossuaries were:
- Joseh (Joseph)
- Marjah (Maria)
- Matjah (Matthew)
- Yeshua Bar Jehosef (Jesus, son of Joseph)
- Jehuda Bar Jeschua (Judas, Son of Jesus)
- and Mariamenou Mara.
Allegedly it was about the family grave of Jesus . Analyzes of remains from the ossuaries seemed to support this thesis. A statistical analysis of the frequency of names in Jesus' time was cited as the main evidence. It was also concluded that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene and they had a son. The team went in search of the family burial site in Jerusalem-Talpiot and eventually rediscovered it. They got in through a shaft and re-examined the grave, but had to stop the investigation because they had not obtained permission.
criticism
The Israeli Ministry of Antiquities confirmed in 2003 that the inscriptions carved on the bone boxes at a much later date and artificially with a patina were covered.
It is also to be criticized that only a mitochondrial DNA analysis of the alleged remains of Jesus and Mary Magdalene was reported. From the result that both do not have the same mother, the thesis was derived that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married. Much more interesting, however, would be a DNA comparison of the alleged remains of Mary (mother of Jesus) with those of the brothers and sisters of Jesus : Simon, Joseph (Joses), Judas, James and of course Jesus himself. Many claims could be corroborated or quickly refuted.
Critics like Jürgen Zangenberg , Professor of New Testament at the University of Leiden (Netherlands), describe the theory on which the film is based as unrealistic. It is not about scientific findings: "This is about money and headlines."
