The Maskenfest des Lebens is a German silent film melodrama from 1918 with Henny Porten in the lead role.
action
Jolanthe von Brissac is the lady-in-waiting of a grand duchess. She wishes that she would marry Count Falcon, although Jolanthe does not love him. After a short marriage, the count had a fatal accident on a hunt. A little later, at a dance, Jolanthe meets another man who does not reveal himself because he is wearing a mask at this point. Jolanthe is fascinated by this mysterious stranger, invites him over for tea and finally gives himself up to him. Little does she suspect that the mysterious stranger is the doctor Dr. Wolfgang Sanders is.
As a result of this one-night stand, a child is born. Jolanthe's son was four years old when one day he fell seriously ill. Worried, his mother immediately notifies a doctor who takes care of her little Rolf and saves his life. Only now does Jolanthe have to realize that the doctor is her great love and at the same time the father of her child. Happy end.
Production notes
The Mask Festival of Life was censored in August 1918 and was premiered on August 30, 1918 in the Mozart Hall in Berlin. The film had four nudes, originally 1,440 meters long, with 75 subtitles. A youth ban was issued. When it was re-censored in May 1921, the film was shortened to 1,213 meters.
