The barbarian sword is an Italian barbarian film from 1982. The film opened on January 14, 1983 in German cinemas.
action
After the kingdom of the wise king Ator (possibly an allusion to the character Ator in a film made the previous year) has been destroyed, his son Sangraal leads the survivors of his people on their search for a new home. After a long hike they are taken in by another tribe, but this arouses the wrath of the evil fire goddess Rani, who does not tolerate intruders in her sphere of influence. She entrusts her servant, the warlord Nantuk, with the extermination of both peoples and wishes that Sangraal die. Sangraal is overwhelmed and has to watch the massacre helplessly, but he is freed by an Asian arrow archer Li Wo Twan who happens to be passing by. Together with Aki, the daughter of the murdered village elder, they go on the run.
Constantly pursued by Nantuk's warriors who attack repeatedly, they go to the Black Mountains to seek advice from the mage Rudak. He recommends Sangraal to visit a grotto , in which the mysterious weapon of the Knights of Justice is, with which the cruel goddess Rani can be destroyed. On the arduous journey, Sangraal is confronted not only with Nantuk's warriors, but also with blind and aggressive cave dwellers who are prone to severe bleeding, as well as ape-men living in treetops. Ultimately, however, he succeeds in getting to the grotto and taking the weapon, a crossbow of gigantic proportions. But outside, Li is killed and Aki kidnapped. After defeating Nantuk in a duel, he destroys Rani with three bolts from the crossbow and then goes on his way with Aki.
meaning
With The Sword of the Barbarian an attempt was made to profit from the popularity of the barbarian film genre with extremely modest means . The always recognizable cheapness of the production, the objectively ascertainable total theatrical inability of the main actor and other actors involved , idiosyncratic dialogues, clumsy action scenes and bizarre plot sequences make the entire film seem involuntarily funny. It is therefore a trash film .
criticism
- "Worthy representative of the barbarian film. Ridiculous, hollow, clichéd and stupid. Trash with fur-boot gaiters." Conclusion of criticism on VideoRaiders.net .
"Stupid & stupid & boring too. A film that one day later can only be remembered with difficulty. "
