The Ultimate Christmas Present is a 2000 American comedy film .
action
Allie, 12, lives with her family in Los Angeles , California . Although it's just before Christmas, the city has summer weather. When Allie and her friend Sam (Samantha) take a shortcut through the woods on their way home from school, they witness an old man throw a strange device in the trash. Out of curiosity, Allie takes the device home with her against Sam's will.
There Allie discovers that the device can change the weather. After a test run in which Allie devastated her room with a thunderstorm and an earthquake , she put the device in her flower box to cause a snowstorm . Allie hopes that this will close her school and that she will not have to hand in an overdue homework. In fact, so much snow fell the following night that almost all schools had to close. The storm not only amazes the residents, but also Santa Claus , who had built this weather machine and is now trying to get it back with the help of two elves. The unsuccessful weather presenter Edwin senses a sensation and wants to save his career with this storm.
The storm and the machine meanwhile develop a life of their own. Ultimately, the storm becomes so strong that even San Francisco is paralyzed and Allie's father cannot be home in time for Christmas. Allie and Sam try to paralyze the machine, whereupon they are surprised by Santa Claus and his elves. Santa explains to them that he found her because Allie is on the bad girls list and that he is the only one who can stop the machine. But Edwin, who has found out that the storm has its origin in Allie's house, finds the machine and runs away with it in order to make the weather himself from now on and thus achieve absolute success.
Santa Claus, however, with Allie and Sam's help, can stop Edwin at a candy factory and get the machine back. When he repairs the machine, he explains to Allie why he built it and how she can make it back on the list of good girls. In the end the machine works normally again and the storm stops. On the following day, Christmas Day, Allie finds a message from Santa Claus at the 'Christmas Cactus'. When she opens it, her father arrives. Happy to have the family back together, Allie describes this as the ultimate Christmas present.
criticism
"Conventional Christmas film for young people that meets expectations without particularly livening up the genre."
