Dasol Kim (also Kim Da Sol , Da Sol Kim , Kim Dasol ; * 1989 in Busan , South Korea ) is a South Korean pianist who lives in Germany .

Life

During a vacation trip to relatives, Kim first came into contact with a piano at the age of eleven . During the two weeks of vacation he spent a lot of time on this instrument and taught himself the first pieces. For example, he learned Bartók's children 's dances for piano through listening and replaying. After that he had the absolute desire to learn to play the piano professionally and enrolled at a music school. Here he learned musical notation and received his first piano lessons .

At the age of 13 he took up piano studies at the Art High School in Busan with Kim In-il and became a member of the junior support class at the Korean National University of Arts in Seoul with Lim Jong-phil . In October 2006 he continued his piano studies abroad and became a master student with Gerald Fauth at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theater in Leipzig . He then moved to the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media in 2010 , studied with Karl-Heinz Kämmerling and finally completed his studies in Arie Vardi's solo class .

Competitions

Dasol Kim is the First Prize Winner of the MBC Broadcasting Music Competition in South Korea and the Ulsan University Music Competition . In 2005 he won first prize at the Nagoya International Music Competition (Japan) and second prize at the Yun I-sang International Music Competition in Gyeongnam (South Korea). In 2006 he was the winner of the International Asia Chopin Competition in Japan and in 2008 the winner of the International Piano Competition in Geneva in 2008. He won third prize at the ARD 2011 International Music Competition in Munich in September 2011. In June 2012, Dasol Kim won the second prize at the Géza Concours Anda , in October 2012 1st prize at the international Kissinger Piano Olympics competition . In November 2015 he won the audition of the New York agency Young Concert Artists .

Solo activity

In November 2009 he made his debut as a soloist in Berlin with Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto op. 23 in B flat minor. Under the direction of Michael Sanderling , he played Mozart piano concertos several times with the Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie . In the 2010/2011 season he performed with the MDR Symphony Orchestra in the Leipzig Gewandhaus and with the Berlin Chamber Orchestra in the Konzerthaus Berlin . Since then he has played as a soloist with orchestras such as the Konzerthausorchester Berlin , New Yorker Philharmoniker , Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich , Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks , under conductors like Alan Gilbert and David Zinman . His debut CD "Dasol Kim Plays Schumann" was released by the Universal Music Group in Korea in 2015 and was released on the Deutsche Grammophon label .
