Dasylirion glaucophyllum is a species of the genus Dasylirion in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae). English common names are "Glaucous-Leaved Dasylirion", "Hidalgo Sotol" and "Desert Spoon".

Dasylirion glaucophyllum forms a robust trunk 30 to 50 cm in height. The variable, irregularly arranged, waxy, bluish leaves are 50 to 100 cm long and 5 to 10 mm wide. The yellow radial spines are directed irregularly upwards.

The dense, paniculate and woody inflorescence becomes 1 to 2 m high. The numerous flowers are green to white in color.

The elliptical capsule fruits contain a seed and are 7 to 9 mm long and 4 to 5 mm wide. The triangular brown seeds are 3 to 4 mm long and 2 mm wide.

The flowering period extends from June to July.

Distribution and systematics

Dasylirion glaucophyllum is distributed in Mexico in Hidalgo at altitudes from 1900 to 3000 m. The species grows on stony slopes, associated with Yucca filifera , agave species and calibanus species.

The first description was in 1858 by William Jackson Hooker . Dasylirion glaucum Carrière is synonymous .

The rare Dasylirion glaucophyllum is a member of the Glaucophyllum section . It is geographically isolated in east-central Mexico. The robust short trunk with the typical waxy, bluish leaves is characteristic. The species is closely related to Dasylirion wheeleri but the leaves are narrower overall. Dasylirion glaucophyllum is cultivated in Europe in Mediterranean regions.
