Dasylirion palaciosii is a species of the genus Dasylirion in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae). An English common name is "Sotolillo".

description

Dasylirion palaciosii forms a short stem 20 to 50 cm high. The variable, waxy bluish, toothed leaves are 40 to 100 cm long and 5 to 15 mm wide.

The panicley, woody, narrow inflorescence is 1.5 to 2.5 m high. The numerous flowers are yellow. The flowering period is in May.

The egg-shaped to round capsule fruits contain a seed and are 8 to 9 mm long and 6 to 8 mm wide. The triangular light brown seeds are 3.5 mm long and 3 mm wide.

Distribution and systematics

Dasylirion palaciosii is endemic to Mexico in San Luis Potosi at altitudes of 1600 to 1700 m. The species grows in open, flat terrain or in open woodland on stony slopes together with Yucca potosina and Agave striata .

It was first described in 1955 by Jerzy Rzedowski .

The rare Dasylirion palaciosii is a member of the Glaucophyllum section . It is endemic to San Luis Potosi. It is similar to Dasylirion berlandieri , but there are differences in leaf and flower structure.

Dasylirion palaciosii is frost hardy to minus 8 ° C. Dasylirion palaciosii is hardly known.
