David Patrick "Dave" Hannan (born November 26, 1961 in Greater Sudbury , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who worked for the Pittsburgh Penguins , Edmonton Oilers , Toronto Maple Leafs , Buffalo Sabers , Colorado Avalanche and Ottawa Senators has played in the National Hockey League .
Career
Dave Hannan began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey Association , where he played for the Windsor Spitfires , Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Brantford Alexanders was active. He then played for Brantford for a year in the OHA's successor league , the Ontario Hockey League . Following his junior years, the winger was selected in the tenth round of the 1981 NHL Entry Draft as the 196th player of the Pittsburgh Penguins , for whom he was in the National Hockey League from 1981 to 1987 . In his first four seasons he also ran regularly for Pittsburgh farm teams , the Erie Blades and Baltimore Skipjacks , in the American Hockey League . On November 24, 1987 it was given to the Edmonton Oilers together with Craig Simpson , Moe Mantha and Chris Joseph in exchange for Paul Coffey , Dave Hunter and Wayne Van Dorp . With the Oilers he immediately won the prestigious Stanley Cup in the 1987/88 season . He contributed to this success with a total of 22 scorer points, including ten goals, in 63 games.
For the 1988/89 season Hannan returned to his ex-club Pittsburgh Penguins. He then spent three years with the traditional Canadian team Toronto Maple Leafs and was given by this in March 1992 in exchange for a five-round vote in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft to the Buffalo Sabers . There he spent four seasons before he was transferred to the Colorado Avalanche on March 20, 1996 shortly before the end of the trade deadline against a six-round vote in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft . With these he won the Stanley Cup for the second time in his career at the end of the season. In 17 games for the Avalanche, he had scored one goal and provided two assists. As a free agent , the Canadian signed a contract with the Ottawa Senators on September 13, 1996 , with whom he ended his career at the end of the 1996/97 season at the age of 35.
International
For Canada , Hannan took part in the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville . He scored three goals in eight games and gave five assists. Before that, he made three test matches for the national team during the preparations for the Olympic Games.
