David A. Bednar (2007)

David Allan Bednar (born June 15, 1952 in Oakland , California ) is an Apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has been a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles since 2004 .

Life

Bednar worked as a missionary in southern Germany in his youth. He then studied at Brigham Young University in Provo , Utah , where he received a bachelor's degree in 1976 and a master's degree in 1977 . He received a Ph.D. from Purdue University in West Lafayette , Indiana in 1980. Bednar has now taught as a professor of business management at Texas Tech University and the University of Arkansas . He then became president of Ricks College in Rexburg , Idaho on July 1, 1997 . During his presidency in 2001, the college became Brigham Young University-Idaho . On December 1, 2004, following his call to be an Apostle of Latter-day Saints Church of Jesus Christ, he stepped down from the presidency on December 1, 2004. As an apostle, Bednar is a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

Bednar has been married since 1975 and has three sons.
