David Bouvier
David Bouvier (* 1957 ) is a Swiss Graecist .
Life
After the Matura (type A) in Neuchâtel NE , he obtained a license and a Maîtrise en lettres classiques at the Sorbonne Université and a Diplôme d'études approfondies at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales ( Paris 1981). In 1984 he received his doctorate from EHESS (dissertation with Jean-Pierre Vernant , grants from the French government and the Council of Europe). In the same year he was elected a member of the Center Louis Gernet de recherches comparées sur les sociétés anciennes . After studying at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa (1987–1988), he was Claude Calames's assistant at the University of Lausanne (1988–90) for two years . From 1990 to 1991 he taught as an assistant professor at the University of Chicago (Department of Classics, University of Chicago). Back in Lausanne in January 1991, he took over the position of Maître d'enseignement et de recherche en langue et littérature grecques anciennes from Louis Graz. In 2004 he was appointed full professor of Greek language and literature at the University of Lausanne to succeed Claude Calame .
His research interests are anthropological analysis of genres, archaic Greece, Homeric epic, organization and building of knowledge in archaic Greece and aspects of epic poetic creation.
