David Byron
David Byron , actually David Garrick , (born January 29, 1947 in Epping , England , † February 28, 1985 in Reading ) was a British musician .
biography
David Byron became known as the singer and front man of the rock band Uriah Heep , which he founded in 1970 with Ken Hensley , Mick Box , Paul Newton and Alex Napier . His clear, melodic singing style shaped the band significantly. In 1975 he released his first solo album Take No Prisoners . However, the album was not very successful commercially. Tensions between Byron and Uriah Heep's musical head Hensley carried over to the mood in the band. Byron exaggerated his image as the band's front man until he was fired from the rest of the band in 1976.
He then formed the band Rough Diamond with former Humble Pie guitarist Clem Clempson and former Wings drummer Geoff Britton . With this band, Byron followed the direction away from experimental hard rock Uriah Heeps towards straighter, drier blues rock . Rough Diamond released an album of the same name in 1977 and went on tour in America. She then separated from Byron, renamed herself Champion and played another record with a new singer. Byron continued his solo career. The album Baby Faced Killer was musically more commercial, but also only brought bad sales.
Byron then founded a new rock project, The Byron Band, with the up-and-coming guitarist Robin George . Byron suffered a breakdown during his band's debut appearance at London's Marquee Club . The Byron Band stayed with the 1981 album On the Rocks and the 1980 single Every Inch of the Way . In 1985 he died of the consequences of increasing alcohol addiction .
