David Cassel (born March 7, 1818 in Glogau , † January 22, 1893 in Berlin ) was a German educator and Hebraist .

Live and act

Cassel researched and taught at the University for the Science of Judaism in Berlin, he wrote several textbooks and dictionaries. With Moritz Steinschneider he was involved in the planning of a real encyclopedia of Judaism in 1844 . Since 1857 he was a member of the Society of Friends . Until 1886 Cassel was a member of the teaching staff of the Berlin Beth Hamidrash at Heidereutergasse 4.

His grave is in the Jewish cemetery in Berlin-Weißensee .
