David Yarburgh Cunliffe-Lister, 2nd Earl of Swinton (born March 21, 1937 - March 26, 2006 ) was a British politician, judge and peer .

life and career

Cunliffe-Lister was born on March 21, 1937 to Major John Yarburgh Cunliffe-Lister and Anne Irvine Medlicott. On December 8, 1959, he married Susan Lilian Primrose . They had no biological children, but they did have an adopted son and daughter.

Cunliffe-Lister attended Winchester College and the Royal Agricultural College in Cirencester . On July 27, 1972, he inherited the title of Earl of Swinton from his grandfather . He was regularly involved in debates in the House of Lords and served as Deputy Government Chief Whip (Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard ). He held his seat in the House of Lords until November 11, 1999, when he was expelled by the House of Lords Act 1999 .

He was a member of the North Riding of Yorkshire Council from 1961 to 1974. In the county of North Yorkshire he was a member of the county council, the County Council , from 1973 to 1977. From 1982 to 1986 he was director of the Leeds Permanent Building Society .

The 2nd Earl of Swinton died on March 26, 2006 at the age of 69.
