David Ebershoff (2008)

David A. Ebershoff (* 1969 in Pasadena , California ) is an American writer .

Life

Ebershoff studied at Brown University and the University of Chicago .

In 1995 he began his career in the literary industry through an internship at Random House . The following year he was given a full-time position in marketing at Modern Library . In 1998 he was promoted to Publishing Director of Modern Library.

He became known in 2000 for his first novel, The Danish Girl, about Lili Elbe , one of the first transsexuals to undergo gender reassignment surgery. The book won the American Academy of Arts and Letters Rosenthal Foundation Award in 2001 and the Lambda Literary Award in the transgender literature category . The German edition appeared in 2002 under the title The Danish Girl . The work was in 2015 by Tom Hooper with Eddie Redmayne in the role of Lili Elbe filmed .

After a short story collection, Pasadena Ebershoff's second novel was published in 2002 . The German edition The Scent of Oranges was published in 2005.

The novel The 19th Wife followed in 2008 and was made into a film just two years later .

Ebershoff is Vice President and Executive Editor at Random House. He also taught creative writing at New York University and Princeton University . He currently teaches at Columbia University .

Ebershoff lives in New York City.
