David Every Constant

David Every Konstant (born June 16, 1930 in London - † October 9, 2016 ) was an English clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Leeds .

Life

David Konstant entered St Edmund's College in Ware after graduating from Christ's College (Master of Arts) and the University of London (Education) and studied philosophy and theology. He was ordained a priest on June 12, 1954 by Archbishop of Westminster Bernard Griffin . He then worked as a teacher and lecturer at Christ's College, University of London and St Edmund's College . After further educational positions, he became director of the Westminster Religious Education Center in 1970 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on March 28, 1977 auxiliary bishop in Westminster and titular bishop of Betagbarar . The Archbishop of Westminster, George Basil Cardinal Hume OSB , donated him episcopal ordination on April 25 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops in Westminster Gerald Mahon MHM and Victor Guazzelli .

He was appointed Bishop of Leeds by Pope John Paul II on July 12, 1985, and was installed in office on September 25 of the same year. He has held numerous offices in the Episcopal Conference of England and Wales . Pope John Paul II accepted his health-related resignation on April 7, 2004.

For his work he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Law Faculty of Leeds Metropolitan University in 2004 and from the University of Bradford in 2006. He is the namesake of the Bishop Konstant Catholic Multi Academy Trust , an educational initiative in the Diocese of Leeds.
