David Frölund (born June 4, 1979 as David Marek ) is a Swedish football player . The midfielder , who was known under the name David Marek until the beginning of 2009, joined the Swedish national team in 2003 .

Career

Frölund started playing football with Backa IF . He then moved to Örgryte IS . For the traditional club he ran in the Allsvenskan . The full-back quickly established himself as a regular at the club and there were repeated discussions about playing in the national team. In February 2003 he was appointed to the Swedish national team for the King's Cup . There he sat on the bench most of the time, but made his debut in the national shirt in the 1-1 draw with North Korea .

Before the 2005 season, Frölund moved to the first division promoted BK Häcken . After two years in the upper house, the club had to relegate at the end of the 2006 season, but Marek remained loyal to the club. With one point behind third-placed GIF Sundsvall , he missed direct promotion with the team. With 24 season appearances in the second division season in 2008 , he contributed to the return to the House of Lords a year later. In March 2009, he made headlines when he appeared on the shirt with a new last name - he had adopted his wife's name at his wedding in 2007, but initially kept the old name on the shirt and changed it before the 2009 premier league season . At the side of Mathias Ranégie , Tom Söderberg and Christoffer Källqvist , he finished fifth in the table with the promoted team under coach Peter Gerhardsson , with a European cup position only being missed by two points.
