Tom Söderberg (born August 25, 1987 in Norrköping ) is a Swedish football player . The defender , who made his debut for the Swedish national team in 2010 , rose to the Allsvenskan in 2008 with BK Häcken .
Career
Born in Sweden, Söderberg moved to Norway with his family at the age of six. There he started playing football at Viking Stavanger as a goalkeeper . After his parents returned to Sweden, he played for Backa IF, based on Hisingen . Since there were already enough goalkeepers, he had to play as a field player from then on. The defender later joined the youth department of Gothenburg club BK Häcken at the age of 14 .
At BK Häcken, Söderberg went through the individual youth teams. In 2006 he won the prestigious Gothia Cup with the club's U-18 team . As a result, he moved up to the squad of the first division team, but was not used in the 2006 season . After the club was relegated to the Superettan , he played his first appearances as a substitute in the 2007 second division season . When the club narrowly missed the relegation games in fourth place in the table , they contributed three goals in 13 games - he was in the starting lineup in eight - in the subsequent season. In the first division season in 2009 he became a regular player under coach Peter Gerhardsson at the side of David Frölund , Mattias Östberg and Johan Lind . In the first division he scored two goals this season and just barely missed the European Cup with the promoted team in fifth. Due to his good performance, the new national coach Erik Hamrén surprisingly nominated him for the first international matches of the year in January 2010. In the 1-0 win over Oman with a goal by Anders Svensson , he made his debut on January 20 of that year in the national team's defense line. Then, slowed down by Pfeiffer glandular fever and a knee injury, he commuted between the starting eleven and the grandstand.
In the 2012 season , Söderberg was again a regular at BK Häcken. In 25 league games, alongside Abdul Majeed Waris , Martin Ericsson and René Makondele, he ensured that the club was in a duel with IF Elfsborg for the championship title. In the end it was only enough for second place in the Allsvenskan. After his contract expired at the end of the year, he moved to IF Elfsborg on a free transfer, where he signed a three-year contract. During preparation in March, he injured his meniscus and was temporarily absent. After his recovery he was one of the reigning champions' regulars under coach Jörgen Lennartsson .
