David George Hamilton Frost, Baron Frost CMG (born February 21, 1965 in Derby , England ) is a British diplomat and Conservative Party politician . Johnson has appointed Frost to the Boris Johnson II cabinet as of March 1, 2021 , as Minister for "Coordination of Relations with the EU Institutions and the 27 Member States". On December 18, 2021, he submitted his resignation.

career

Frost was the UK Ambassador to Denmark from 2006 to 2008 . This was followed by positions at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (2008–2010) and at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (2010–2013). On June 28, 2020, Johnson announced that he would appoint Frost as UK National Security Adviser (to succeed Lord Sedwill). This has been criticized from many quarters, including former Prime Minister Theresa May . On August 12, 2020, Queen Elizabeth II named Frost a Life Peer as Baron Frost , of Allenton in the County of Derbyshire . He is thus a lifetime member of the House of Lords , in which he on September 8 introduced was. His salutation since then has been "Lord Frost".

resignation

On December 18, 2021, Frost submitted his resignation as Brexit Minister. In a letter to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, he expressed the view that “Brexit is now secured”, but that he is concerned about the future political direction. Frost expressed the hope that the United Kingdom could as soon as possible transform itself into a "deregulated, entrepreneurial, low-tax economy on the pulse of modern science and economic change" ( a lightly regulated, low-tax, entrepreneurial economy, at the cutting edge of modern science and economic change ). History has shown that societies that take this path grew and prospered. In conclusion, he expressed the hope that the COVID-19-related restrictions would be lifted as soon as possible. However, the highly contagious Omicron variant has been spreading in Great Britain since December 2021 ; the UK government is considering new restrictions. On the day of Frost's resignation, 90,418 new infections were registered; three weeks earlier it had only been 40,000.
