David Haneke (born August 13, 1965 in Vienna ) is an Austrian video designer , director and cameraman .

Life

David Haneke is the son of the Austrian director Michael Haneke . He grew up in Vienna, where he graduated from the Waldorf School and studied the cello with Wolfgang Ebert from 1974 to 1984 . In 1985 he went to Amsterdam where he lived until 2005. In 1992 he graduated from the Amsterdam Theater School AHK with a degree in performing arts (mimeopleiding). Since 2005 he has lived in Switzerland with his wife and two children .

Services

The focus of his work is on video design for the stage, which is projected internationally on various surfaces in opera, theater or dance performances as an integral part of the productions. These consist of previously recorded, animated or live generated image material.

His visual works describe a broader spectrum: from video design for the stage, to short films, to innovative video installations for museum spaces.

David Haneke works internationally for various opera and theaters, including the Welsh National Opera , the San Francisco Opera and the Theater an der Wien as well as u. a. with the directors David Pountney , Torsten Fischer and Nicola Raab .

In 2016 David Haneke replaced the late video artist Bruce Geduldig on the tour of the American band Tuxedomoon .

Works

In 1979 he played Martin Beranek in Michael Haneke's Lemminge .

During his appearances as a performer in various Dutch theater productions and short films, he increasingly worked with video on stage and made several short films, including Humming Wires and the architecture trilogy De Architekt an het water about three water factories by the Dutch architect (Rijksbouwmeester) Wim Quist .

Between 1993 and 2000 he worked intensively with the space-specific movement theater group BEWTH.

Since 1996 numerous 'video projection design' works have been created for the stage in theater, dance and opera.

Awards

For his video stage design for Usher House (Gordon Getty) and la chute de la maison usher (Claude Debussy) he was nominated for the Knight of Illumination Award (Best Video Design) in 2014 .

Haneke's short film Humming Wires , which was shown worldwide in the Dutch Specials series, received the "best Sound" award at the Avanca Film Festival, Portugal in 1998.
