David Kenyon Webster (born June 2, 1922 ; missing since September 9, 1961 ) was an American journalist , writer and soldier . He is portrayed by Eion Bailey in the miniseries Band of Brothers .

Life

David Webster was born in New York on 2 June 1922, attended school in Watertown ( Connecticut ). Before joining the 101st Airborne Division paratroopers in 1942 , he studied English literature at Harvard University . Hence the nicknames Einstein and Professor.

After training as a paratrooper with the F Company, Webster jumped on June 6, 1944 with the E Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment in Normandy and took part in the subsequent attack on Carentan . In September 1944 Webster jumped over Holland as part of Operation Market Garden and was wounded in the leg on October 5, 1944 in a skirmish against units of the Waffen SS . After this wounding he was taken to a hospital in England and returned to E-Company in February 1945, where he served the remainder of the war.

After World War II, Webster graduated from college and worked as a journalist for the Wall Street Journal and the Los Angeles Daily News . He was also very interested in sharks. Among other things, he wrote the book "Myth and Maneater: The Story of the Shark." On September 9, 1961, Webster drove off the coast of Santa Monica and disappeared. He has been missing since then. David Webster left a wife and three children.
