David Koch (musician)
David Koch (* 1988 in Sursee ) is a Swiss jazz guitarist .
Live and act
Koch grew up as the son of a classical flautist; in his youth he played with the Irish folk and klezmer band Planxty Irwin . Starting with Klezmer, he dealt with the work of John Zorn and the music of the New York downtown avant-garde. This led to his jazz studies at the Lucerne School of Music , where he had lessons from Kurt Rosenwinkel , Gerry Hemingway and especially Frank Möbus ; in the latter, he completed his master's degree. Currently (2016) he is a member of the quartet The Great Harry Hillman (with Nils Fischer , Samuel Huwyler and Dominik Mahnig ), he also plays in the band Vsitor with Lea Fries and Valentin Liechti and was guitarist for the indie rock band Books On until they broke up Shelves .
Prizes and awards
In 2015 he won the ZKB Jazz Prize with The Great Harry Hillman .
