Career

Sanford played after high school with the beginning of the 2012/13 season in the Eastern Junior Hockey League with the Islanders Hockey Club. There he played in parallel for the university's traditional ice hockey program in Hockey East , a division in the gaming operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association .

With the signing of his first contract with Washington Capitals, Sanford finally switched to professional life in July 2016. Ultimately, the striker shuttled between the NHL squad and that of the Hershey Bears farm team from the American Hockey League . At the end of February 2017, Sanford was transferred to the St. Louis Blues together with Brad Malone , a first-round right to vote in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft and a conditional second-round right to vote in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft . In return, the Capitals received Kevin Shattenkirk and goalkeeper Pheonix Copley . With the Blues, Sanford won the Stanley Cup in 2019 .
