Pheonix Copley (born January 18, 1992 in North Pole , Alaska ) is an American ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League since February 2017 and for their farm team , the Hershey Bears , in American Hockey League plays.

Career

Originally from Alaska , Copley first played in the lower class junior leagues in the United States. He was active in the states of California and Texas . About the North American Hockey League , the goalkeeper made the leap into the United States Hockey League in the summer of 2011 , where he ran up until February 2011 for the Tri-City Storm and then until the end of the 2011/12 season for the Des Moines Buccaneers. Since the 20-year-old was unable to recommend himself for a professional team there, he initially decided to study at Michigan Tech University . There he played for the university ice hockey team until 2014.

In March 2014, the Washington Capitals from the National Hockey League finally secured the services of the goalkeeper and subsequently used him in the ECHL with the South Carolina Stingrays and the American Hockey League with the Hershey Bears until the summer of 2015 . In July 2015, Copley was handed over to the St. Louis Blues together with Troy Brouwer and a third-round vote in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft . In return, TJ Oshie moved to the US capital. In the organization of the Blues, the goalkeeper also played for their farm team , the Chicago Wolves , in the AHL. He made his NHL debut for the Blues during the 2015-16 season . His expiring contract was extended by one year in July 2016. Copley subsequently continued to play for the Wolves in the AHL, but also played another NHL game until the end of February 2017. He eventually returned to the Washington Capitals franchise as part of a transfer deal . Kevin Shattenkirk moved with him to Washington in February 2017. The Capitals, however, transferred Zach Sanford , Brad Malone , a first-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft 2017 and a conditional second-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft 2019 to St. Louis.
