Marco Scandella (born February 23, 1990 in Montréal , Québec ) is a Canadian ice hockey player with Italian roots who has been under contract with the St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League since February 2020 . Previously, the defender spent seven years in the organization of the Minnesota Wild and nearly two and a half years with the Buffalo Sabers and was briefly active for the Canadiens de Montréal .

Career

Marco Scandella began his career as a hockey player with the Foreurs de Val-d'Or , for which he was active from 2007 to 2010 in the Canadian junior league Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec (LHJMQ). During this period he was selected in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft in the second round as the 55th player of the Minnesota Wild . For their farm team Houston Eros from the American Hockey League , the defender made his senior debut towards the end of the 2008/09 season . He also finished the following season with the Eros in the AHL. In the 2010/11 season , the Canadian ran for the first time for the Minnesota Wild in the National Hockey League . In 20 games he prepared two goals, but was mostly still used for the AHL farm team Houston Eros. In the 2011/12 season he was able to fight for the first time a regular place in the NHL team of the Minnesota Wild.

After seven years in organizing the Wild, Scandella was handed over to the Buffalo Sabers in June 2017 with Jason Pominville and a four-round vote in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft . In return, Tyler Ennis , Marcus Foligno and a third-round vote for the same draft moved to Minnesota. After about two and a half years in Buffalo, Scandella moved to his hometown to the Canadiens de Montréal in exchange for a four-round right to vote in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft . However, he was only active there for about a month before he was transferred to the St. Louis Blues in February 2020 . In return, the Canadiens received a second-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft 2020 and a conditional four-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft 2021 . In April 2020, the defender signed a new four-year contract in St. Louis, which should bring him an average annual salary of 3.275 million US dollars from the start of the 2020/21 season.

International

For Canada , Scandella took part in the U18 Junior World Championship in 2008 and the U20 Junior World Championship in 2010 . At the U18 World Cup in 2008 he and his team won the gold medal and at the U20 World Cup in 2010 the silver medal.
