Jake Allen (born August 7, 1990 in Fredericton , New Brunswick ) is a Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper . He has been under contract with the St. Louis Blues from the National Hockey League since October 2008 and has been playing in the franchise system since 2010 .
Career
Jake Allen began his junior career in his hometown of Fredericton in the Canadian province of New Brunswick , before joining the St. John's Fog Devils in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec in 2007 . There he was used in his debut season in a total of 30 games, but could only record nine wins. Although Allen won two games in the play-offs with the team, St. John's lost in the first round to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan . In the 2008 NHL Entry Draft , he was finally selected by the St. Louis Blues in the second round at a total of 34th position and signed a preliminary entry contract in the same year .
Since the Fog Devils were relocated to Montreal in the following season , Allen also moved to the new team, which was called Junior de Montréal . There he took the post of goalkeeper in the 2008/09 season and set numerous franchise records. He achieved 28 wins and an average of 2.86 goals against per game, the lowest in the history of the organization. In addition, he was named Defensive Player of the Week once during the season and invited to the LHJMQ's All-Star Game .
The following season Allen also began in Montreal, but was handed over to the Voltigeurs de Drummondville at the trade deadline in January 2010 , who were given two first-round voting rights in the LHJMQ's Entry Draft . With his new team he had won 15 out of 18 games by the end of the season, recording a catch rate of 93 percent. In addition, Allen succeeded in February 2010, a total of 188 minutes in a row without conceding, which was the second longest series in the history of the league. He was subsequently named Defensive Player of the Month for his achievements . With an average of 2.20 conceded, he also received the Trophée Jacques Plante as the best goalkeeper of the LHJMQ at the end of the season and also prevailed against his competitors from the OHL and the WHL in the election for CHL Goaltender of the Year . He was also elected to the LHJMQ All-Star Team . In the play-offs, the voltigeurs made it to the semi-finals, but failed there because of the later title winner Moncton Wildcats .
For the 2010/11 season , Jake Allen finally moved to the Peoria Rivermen , the farm team of the St. Louis Blues, in the American Hockey League . There he played himself as a rookie straight away to the goalkeeper and set new team records with 24 wins and six shutouts . In addition, he was named goalkeeper of the month in the AHL in November 2010 and was chosen as the starting goalkeeper of the Western Conference in the AHL All-Star Classic .

Jake Allen made his first appearance for the St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League on April 30, 2012, when he was substituted on for one minute and seven seconds at the end of the play-off game against the Los Angeles Kings . After the lockout , which delayed the start of the next season until January 2013, Allen was reassigned to the Blues squad shortly after the start of the season for the injured Jaroslav Halák . On February 5, 2013, he finally made his regular season debut against the Nashville Predators . Eight days later he was used for the first time as a starting goalkeeper and also scored his first NHL victory against the Detroit Red Wings . He then won seven of his following eight missions and recorded his first shutout against the Phoenix Coyotes . At the end of the season, Allen was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team for his accomplishments .
During the preparation of the 2013/14 season , Allen was in the extended roster, but could not prevail against Halák and Brian Elliott and was transferred to the new AHL farm team, the Chicago Wolves , in September . It was not until the beginning of the 2014/15 season that Allen established himself in the NHL squad of the Blues and made 43 appearances, leading all rookie goalkeepers in wins (22) and shutouts (4). After the season he was therefore re-elected to the NHL All-Rookie Team , where he still had the status of a rookie because he had not come over 25 appearances in the previous NHL season.
International
Jake Allen made his international debut at the U18 World Cup in 2008 when he won the gold medal with Team Canada . During the course of the tournament, Allen was in goal for the Canadian team in all seven games and led all goalkeeping statistics with a catch rate of almost 95%, an average goal against goals of 1.43 and two shutouts . At the end of the tournament, Allen was recognized as the most valuable player of the tournament and best goalkeeper in the World Cup. He was also nominated for the All-Star Team.
Two years later, the goalkeeper was reappointed to the junior national team and was also the first choice goalkeeper at the 2010 U20 World Cup . He played five games for the Canadians and in the end had the lowest goal average of the tournament. In the final, however, the team failed to the USA and won the silver medal.
