David Krippendorff

David Krippendorff (* 1967 in Berlin ) is a German-American artist and filmmaker .

biography

Krippendorff grew up as the son of the political scientist Ekkehart Krippendorff and the actress Eve Slatner in Italy, between Bologna and Rome.

From 1990 to 1997 he studied art at the Berlin University of the Arts and graduated in 1997 as a master class student. From 1997 to 1999 Krippendorff received a grant from the Karl Hofer Society . From 2000 to 2005 he lived in New York , where he received funding from the Elizabeth Foundation for the Art from 2000 to 2002 and subsequently, in 2003, from the ISCP, the International Studio & Curatorial Program . Since then, Krippendorff has been represented by renowned galleries. In 2012 he received a grant from the Kunstfonds Bonn Foundation . Since then, Krippendorff's work has been shown internationally. B. in the New Museum New York, in the ICA, Institute of Contemporary Art London and in the Hamburger Kunsthalle . He took part in the Prague Biennale , the Mediations Biennale in Poznań and the Israel Video Biennale . In 2016 he participated in the October Salon in Belgrade in the exhibition The Pleasure of Love curated by David Elliott . Krippendorff has lived in Berlin since 2005.

In 2016 his film Nothing Escapes My Eyes was awarded as best short film at the Berlin Short Film Festival and at the Video Festival Verona . Both Nothing Escape My Eyes (2015) and Kali (2017) were realized with the award-winning Israeli-Arab actress Hiam Abbass .

In his early work, Krippendorff dealt with Hollywood feature films as the formal basis for his films and his painting . His subject there was the iconization of images. In later work he begins to develop his own new film language , in which he addresses his identity as a stranger in different cultures .
