David Maney Currin

David Maney Currin, Sr. (born November 11, 1817 in Murfreesboro , Tennessee , † March 25, 1864 in Richmond , Virginia ) was a Tennessee attorney and politician ( Democratic Party ) who served in the Confederate Congress during the War of Civilizations . He was also married to Letitia Irby Watson, whom he married on December 16, 1845 in Williamson County .

Career

He decided to embark on a political career in 1851 when he ran for a seat in the House of Representatives of Tennessee (29th General Assembly ), where he remained after a successful election until 1853. Currin represented the Fayette , Hardeman, and Shelby Counties there .

After the decree of secession and the outbreak of the American Civil War , he represented his state at the Provisional Confederate Congress between 1861 and 1862 . He then represented the Middle Tennessee District in the 1st Confederate Congress . A Nashville newspaper wrote: "Hon. DM Currin was returned from his district. He deservedly ranks highest as a politician and is as disinterested a patriot as lives. He is a man of good ability and will make a worthy, active and efficient representative . " He also served in the 2nd Confederate Congress from 1862 until his death on March 25, 1864 in Richmond, Virginia .
