David Margolick

David Margolick (born January 3, 1952 ) is an American journalist and non-fiction author.

life and work

Margolick grew up in the small town of Putnam, Connecticut , attended the prestigious Loomis School in Windsor, Connecticut, and then studied law at the University of Michigan and Stanford University ( JD 1977). After completing his doctorate, he decided to pursue a career as a legal journalist and initially wrote for the journals The National Law Journal and The American Lawyer . In 1981 he moved to the New York Times , where he rose to become Chief Court Reporter ( National Legal Affairs Correspondent ); Among other things, he reported for the newspaper on the trials against OJ Simpson , Lorena Bobbitt and William Kennedy Smith . Four of his articles for the Times were nominated for the Pulitzer Prize . In 1996 he moved to Vanity Fair as an editor , with which he is still associated today, but he also publishes in other magazines such as The New York Times Book Review , The New York Review of Books , Tablet and Forward and teaches at the journalism school of New York University .

His topics are broad, including reporting for Vanity Fair on the Middle East conflict and interviewing Benjamin Netanyahu as well as Abd al-Aziz ar-Rantisi . He is the author of several non-fiction books, including one about the two boxing matches between Max Schmeling and Joe Louis (1936/38), one about Billie Holidays Song Strange Fruit and its reception, a biography about two of the Little Rock Nine , and another about the writer John Horne Burns .
