David Norris (born December 12, 1990 ) is an American cross-country skier .

Career

Norris started in January 2008 in Houghton for the first time in the US Super Tour and finished 72nd in the 10 km freestyle. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2010 in Hinterzarten , he came in 43rd place in the skiathlon , 29th place over 10 km classic and 12th place with the relay. In January 2011 in Rumford he achieved his first podium finish in the US Super Tour with third place over 15 km classic. At the U23 World Championships in 2011 in Otepää , he achieved 46th place over 15 km freestyle and 28th place in the skiathlon. In the 2011/12 season he came nine times in the top ten of the US Super Tour and thus reached 11th place in the overall standings. He ran his first World Cup race in December 2012 in Canmore , which he finished in 55th place in the skiathlon and 48th place in the 15 km mass start race. At the U23 World Championships in Liberec in 2013 , he finished 50th over 15 km freestyle and 36th place in the sprint. In the 2015/16 season he reached second place in the overall ranking of the US Super Tour. He won three races, including the American Birkebeiner over 51 km freestyle and took third place once. In March 2017 he got his first World Cup points at the World Cup final in Québec , which he finished in 43rd place, with 27th place in the final stage. In the 2017/18 season he won the overall ranking of the US Super Tour with three wins. At the Nor-Am-Cup he achieved eighth place overall with two podium finishes.

After finishing 52nd in the Lillehammer Triple at the beginning of the 2018/19 season, Norris became the US champion in the mass start race over 30 km freestyle in Craftsbury in January 2019 . At the season's highlight, the Nordic World Ski Championships in Seefeld in Tyrol , he finished 38th in the skiathlon , 20th in the 50 km mass start race and ninth in the relay. At the end of the season, he finished 55th in the World Cup finals in Québec and finally achieved third place in the overall ranking of the US Super Tour with second place in the 50 km mass start race at the US Championships in Presque Isle .
