David Philip Farrington (born March 7, 1944 in Ormskirk , Lancashire , England ) is a British psychologist and criminologist . He teaches as Professor of Psychological Criminology at Cambridge University and as Adjunct Professor at the University of Pittsburgh (USA).

Farrington works in the field of developmental criminology and, with colleagues, re-examined the Cambridge Study in Delinquent Development from the 1960s. The result showed that criminal careers generally do not have a front-end course , but are limited on average to the period between the ages of 19 and 28. From interviews with the 48-year-old test persons , it emerged that in all of them (including the persisters ) the social abnormalities had decreased and this corresponds to increasing social integration.

In recent years, Farrington has turned to crime control techniques in his research .
