David Panuelo

David W. Panuelo (born April 13, 1964 in the Carolines ) is a Micronesian politician. He has been President of the Federated States of Micronesia since May 11, 2019. He does not belong to any political party.

Life

Born in what was then the Pacific Islands trust territory under the sovereignty of the United States , he studied at Eastern Oregon State College in Oregon , where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 1987 . In 1988 he completed vocational training in Australia and from that year was employed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federated States of Micronesia. He was appointed Deputy Head of the Fiji Diplomatic Mission in 1989. From 1993 to 1996 he was the deputy head of the country's diplomatic mission to the United Nations .

He has been a representative of the island of Pohnpei in the Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia since the 2011 elections and was re-elected on March 5, 2019 with a victory over Peter Christian . On May 11, he succeeded Peter Christian as President of the Federated States of Micronesia, who is elected by Congress.
