Stanislas Henri Verjus
Stanislas Henri Verjus MSC (born May 26, 1860 in Oleggio , Novara Province , Italy ; † November 13, 1892 ) was an Italian Roman Catholic religious and coadjutor vicar of New Guinea .
Life
Stanislas Henri Verjus joined the Congregation of the Sacred Heart Missionaries at and received on 1 November 1883, the sacrament of Holy Orders .
Pope Leo XIII. appointed him on May 10, 1889 titular Bishop of Limyra and first Vicar Apostolic of New Britain . The Vicar Apostolic of New Guinea , Archbishop Louis-André Navarre MSC, donated him episcopal ordination on September 22 of the same year . Just three months later, on December 28, 1889, he was appointed coadjutor of the Vicar Apostolic of New Guinea. He died at the age of only 32.
In the process of beatification initiated for him, Pope Francis awarded him the heroic degree of virtue on March 3, 2016 .
