David Prentice (musician)

David Prentice (* 1947 in Sault Ste Marie , Ontario ) is a Canadian jazz musician (violin, viola, composition ) and instrument maker .

Live and act

Prentice played with Bill Smith in Toronto from the late 1970s , and from the 1990s a. a. in the Joe McPhee Quartet as well as with the Glenn Spearman / John Heward Group and in 2005 in the Joe Giardullo Open Ensemble. In 1993 he made his debut solo album Solos, Violin & Viola 1993 (NXNW); In 1996 he recorded the duo album Inside Out ( CIMP ) in New York City with Joe McPhee . In 2000 he recorded the album Bloor (CIMP) in a trio with alto saxophonist John Oswald and bassist Dominic Duval . In the field of jazz he was involved in 15 recording sessions between 1979 and 2005. a. also with Wadada Leo Smith ( Rastafari , 1983). From 1980 he worked as an instrument maker; his mentor was the lute player Joseph Curtin.
