John Heward

John Heward (born July 31, 1934 in Montréal ; † November 6, 2018 ) was a Canadian improvisation and jazz musician ( drums , kalimba , percussion ), who also worked as a painter and sculptor .

Life

John Heward worked from the 1970s a. a. with Yves Bouliane, David Prentice , Glenn Spearman , Malcolm Goldstein , Joe McPhee , Dominic Duval , Lisle Ellis , Paul Bley and Joe Giardullo . In 2002 CIMP released the album Adventures in the Looking Glass , which he recorded in a trio with Tristan Honsinger and Jean Derome . In the field of jazz he was involved in 16 recording sessions between 1985 and 2011.

Heward's work has been exhibited in Canadian and European museums and galleries, including the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec and the Center culturel canadien in Paris. His work will also be shown in the Musée d'art contemporain de Montreal . In 2012 he was awarded the Canadian Prix ​​Paul Émile Borduas for his artistic work .

He died at the age of 84 on November 6, 2018.
