David Shamban (born April 5, 1954 in Israel ) is an Israeli cellist .

Shamban got his first cello lessons at the age of seven. He made his first public appearances at the age of nine. As a teenager he won numerous prizes. Shamban received his Bachelor of Arts in 1974 from the Rubin Academy of Music at Tel Aviv University . He then received many scholarships, including one in 1980 for further training in the USA. He graduated from Yale University in New Haven in 1982 with a Masters of Music.

David Shamban has played in the most important concert halls in the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York . David Shamban is a sought-after film musician in America, and many Hollywood productions owe their music to him. As a solo cellist he has appeared with stars such as Barbra Streisand , Madonna , Ray Charles , Julio Iglesias and Stevie Wonder . His true love, however, is for the European classics, whose works he owes his very large repertoire to and to which he now wants to be “close”, which is why he moved to Germany in 2003. Shamban says: "I find the real masters in European music culture, especially Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Bruch ..."

Shamban's virtuosity is also evident in his solo cello interpretation of the ballads originally written for violin by Eugène Ysaÿe , the difficulty level being so high that hardly anyone plays these works on the cello.

In 1994 in the USA he recorded all six suites for cello solo by Johann Sebastian Bach on CD.

David Shamban lives in Haby and is married there to the musician (violin, flute) and Habyer Mayor Gesche Clasen.
