David Mendes da Silva , called David Silva (born October 11, 1986 in Coimbra , Portugal ) is a Cape Verdean football player.

Career

society

After David Silva began his football career in the youth of FC Porto , he made the leap to the B team in 2005. In the 2005/06 season completed 19 games and scored three goals for Porto's amateur team. In the summer of 2006 he then moved to GD Tourizense , but came in the 2006/07 season only seven league appearances and remained without a goal. In the following season he was able to fight for a regular place in the team and completed 33 league games in which he scored four goals. In June 2008 he left Tourizense and moved to Bulgaria to Lokomotive Mesdra , where he signed a three-year contract. In Mesdra, however, he was not happy and so he moved to CSKA Sofia in January 2009 with his team-mate Rui Miguel , with whom he also played at GD Tourizense . He made his league debut on March 7th in a 3-0 away win against Belasiza Petritsch , in this game he also scored his first goal of the season. Only ten more missions followed, so he and Rui Miguel were awarded to the Spanish third division CD Castellón in January 2010 until the end of the season. On June 23, both contracts were terminated by mutual agreement with CSKA Sofia.

On August 1, 2010, he signed a two-year contract with the Scottish club FC Kilmarnock , after he knew how to convince in the pre-season trial. Rui Miguel also followed him to Scotland. Silva was Mixu Paatelainen's first transfer coup in his tenure as manager. On matchday 8, he scored his first goal of the season in the 2-1 defeat by Hibernian Edinburgh when he achieved the interim lead. In his first season in Scotland, he came to 29 league games and four goals this season. The following year he could not permanently consolidate his position in the team, he remained in the 2011/12 season in 16 games without scoring.

Returned to Portugal on June 21, 2012 and signed a two-year contract with SC Olhanense . Already in his second league game he was successful for his new employer, in the 1-1 draw against Académica de Coimbra he scored the equalizer in the 67th minute. After spending a season at Olhanense, Silva returned to FC Kilmarnock in September 2013 and signed a contract until June 2014. However, his contract was terminated in January 2014 due to a lack of fitness.

National team

In October 2012, Silva was appointed for the first time for an international match of the Cape Verdean national team, namely for the qualifying game for participation in the 2013 African Cup of Nations against Cameroon . Against Cameroon, Cape Verde created the sensation and defeated the favorites on the return leg.

With this victory he qualified with his team at the finals of the Africa Cup and David Silva was nominated for the final squad. In the final round, too, he and his team were convincing and came in second in a group with South Africa , Angola and Morocco . The quarter-final game against Ghana was lost 2-0.
