David Watkins (* 1940 in Wolverhampton , England ) is a British goldsmith , sculptor , medalist , university teacher and jazz musician. He is considered to be one of Great Britain's outstanding jewelry artists in the field of designer jewelry. His works are characterized by a sculptural design language.

Life

David Watkins studied sculpture at the University of Reading from 1959 to 1963 .

After starting out as a sculptor, saxophonist and model maker for Stanley Kubrick 's film 2001: A Space Odyssey from 1968, he turned to designer jewelry in the early 1970s.

How jewelry could be was the question on which his work was based and which led him to examine the subject of jewelry as wearable art. His work soon set standards for other British jewelry artists and led to a number of international exhibition participations in Philadelphia , London , Bristol , Oxford , Melbourne , Vienna , Amsterdam and Pforzheim .

As a sculptor, he also created a number of sculptures for public spaces, for example for the cathedral in Hereford , for the Princessehof in Leeuwarden and for the sculpture park in Hong Kong .

As a medalist, he created the gold medal for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Silver and bronze medals.
