David Wittner

David Wittner (born December 1982 in Nördlingen ) is an independent German local politician . He has been Lord Mayor of the city of Nördlingen since May 1, 2020 .

Life

Wittner grew up in his hometown, attended kindergarten, elementary school and the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium , where he also passed his Abitur . He did his nine-month military service as a paratrooper in Pfullendorf , Külsheim and Altenstadt . From October 2003 he studied tourism management at the University of Kempten with a year and a half abroad. In spring 2008 he graduated with the German diploma and the Spanish "Título Superior de Turismo". Initially employed by an online tour operator, he moved to his hometown on January 1, 2010 as head of tourist information. He held this position until he moved to the top of the city in 2020. He worked in various tourism organizations and was chairman of the “Swabian Cities in Bavaria” working group.

He is an avid athlete. As a football coach ( UEFA B-Level ) and marathon runner (personal best time 2:53) he was able to celebrate various successes.

Wittner is married and has three children.

Mayor election

Wittner did not have a political mandate until 2020. As early as October 2018, he was the first of the applicants to announce his interest, and on September 19, 2019, the "PWG - Free Voters Nördlingen eV" nominated him as a candidate for the office of Lord Mayor. In the local elections on March 15, 2020 , he received 36.2% of the votes out of five applicants and came into the runoff, which he won on March 29, 2020 with 56.2% of the votes (turnout 66.9%). He took office on May 1, 2020. In the district council election, which was carried out at the same time, he achieved a seat in the Donau-Ries district council via the PWG list .
