David Wood

David Wood (born April 7, 1976 ) is an English-speaking American evangelical missionary and Christian apologist . He is known for his strong criticism of Islam and atheism , which he spreads on his YouTube channel "Acts17Apologetics". He is the current head of Acts17 Apologetics and a member of the Society of Christian Philosophers and the Evangelical Philosophical Society .

Early life and education

Wood announced that he was an atheist in his youth. He caused several criminal incidents. For example, break-ins and even trying to kill your father at the age of 18. He tried this because he believed morality to be social rules that were below him. After attempting to take his father's life, he was diagnosed with Dissocial Personality Disorder . He was sentenced to ten years in prison for aggravated assault . While in prison, he was confronted by a fellow inmate named Randy, who was a devout Christian. Wood often challenged Randy's Christian faith. He claimed that Randy was only a Christian because he grew up in a predominantly Christian society, such as the United States . Wood began reading the Bible to respond to Randy's explanations. However, this led to his converting to Christianity himself in 1996 and being reconciled with his father.

After five more years, he was released from prison in 2000. He went to university and got a degree in philosophy. While attending university, he was challenged by his roommate, Nabeel Qureshi, to convert to Islam. This was an Ahmadiyya Muslim . Wood examined the Islamic sources. These included the official biography of Ibn Ishaq , the hadith collections Saheeh al-Buchari and Saheeh Muslim and the Islamic historiography of at-Tabari . He noted that the Koran and the example of Muhammad not only depict violence in the past, but also call for violence today. That is why he became a Christian apologist. His roommate Nabeel Qureshi followed him and also became a Christian apologist. Wood later earned a Ph.D. on the Philosophy of Religion from Fordham University .

Christian apologetics

Wood participated in many public debates with Muslims and atheists. These were usually in a public hall or in front of a university audience. He also debated with the Islamic Sunni apologist Shabir Ally . Wood has been invited to a couple of ABN shows. There he debated against Islam and atheism. He appears regularly on the Aramaic Broadcasting Network . He publishes YouTube videos showing his view of religion.

Wood was against the Islamic Center at 49-51 Park Place . He argued that this center was not for honoring the families of the victims of 9/11, but was a symbol of the victory of Islam. This center is said to be called the Cordoba House , in memory of the Islamic conquest of Spain by the Umayyad Caliphate that later formed the Caliphate of Cordoba . Wood was against the planned burning of the Koran in 2010 by preacher Terry Jones . He compared this with the burning of the Koran of the Uthman .

Wood was arrested outside Dearborn after preaching at an Arab festival. He was accused of breaching the peace , but was later acquitted. In May 2013, Dearborn City was required to post a public apology on its website for three years and pay Wood and his staff $ 300,000 in reparation.

Wood wrote a polemic about Richard Carrier's work , which he called "Good 'n' Senseless Without God: A Critical Review of Richard Carrier's New Book, Sense & Goodness Without God." Wood also wrote in magazines against Dan Barker's views .

Personal life

Wood met his future wife, who was a believer in agnosticism at the time, at university. They have four sons.
