Michael Dax McCarty (born April 30, 1987 in Winter Park , Florida ) is an American football player . He has been with Chicago Fire since the 2017 season .

Career

college

Dax McCarty played for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill national team from 2004 to 2005 . In these two years he played 45 games and scored 4 goals. In 2005 he was inducted into the top eleven of the Atlantic Coast Conference . In addition to college, he played for the Ajax Orlando Prospects in the USL Premier Development League .

FC Dallas

In the MLS SuperDraft 2006 he was drafted by FC Dallas and came to the MLS franchise as a generation Adidas player. On July 1, 2006, he made his debut for the Texans. In the game against Chivas USA he was substituted on in the 85th minute.

In the 2007 season it was used for the first time from the start. He made a total of seven assists during the season, making it the most successful in the team. Since the 2009 season, McCarty was a regular in the Dallas midfield.

On November 24, 2010 he was selected by the Portland Timbers in their 2010 MLS Expansion Draft as the first player. The Timbers then traded him for Rodney Wallace and handed their pick in the fourth round of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft.

DC United

With the team from Washington, DC McCarthy got a regular place and was captain of the team. He played his first game on February 7, 2011 in a preparation game against the U-20 national team of Canada . On March 19, 2011, he made his league debut for DC. On June 27, 2011, he moved to the New York Red Bulls in exchange for Dwayne De Rosario .

With the Red Bulls, he played his first league game for his new club on July 2.

National team

As part of the USA U-20s , he took part in the 2007 World Youth Championship in Canada. At the CONCACAF Men's Pre-Olympic Tournament 2008, the CONCACAF qualifying tournament for the 2008 Summer Olympics , he reached the final with the US U-23 and was voted into the best team of the tournament.

With the U-23 he did not get beyond the preliminary round at the 2008 Summer Olympics .

He played his first international match for the United States' national soccer team on November 14, 2009 against Slovakia. In a friendly against Chile on January 22, 2011, he was the captain of the team.
