Dean Lawrence Kiely (born October 10, 1970 in Salford , England ) is a former Irish football player. Most recently he played for West Bromwich Albion .

Career

society

Kiely began his career at his current club, West Bromwich Albion, where he played in various youth teams. He later moved to Coventry City , where he was inducted into the professional squad at the age of 17. However, he could not play a game there. Two years later, in the 1988/1989 season, he was awarded to Ipswich Town , where he was not used. 1990 Kiely moved to York City , where he was able to fight for a regular place. He played 210 games for York in 6 years before moving to Bury for a transfer fee of 200,000 euros . After three years and 137 appearances for Bury, Charlton Athletic signed him in the 1999/00 season for 1.5 million euros. He stayed with the Addicks for six years before moving to Portsmouth FC during the winter break of the 2005/06 season. At Portsmouth he was supposed to replace Sander Westerveld who had migrated and duel with Jamie Ashdown for the space between the posts. Kiely finally prevailed and remained number 1 until the end of the season. With the commitment of the English goalkeeper David James , the Kiely club put a new competitor in front of the 2006/07 season. Finally, the now 36-year-old decided to start a rental shop in Luton Town . He returned for the winter break, but mainly sat on the bench, whereupon he was sold to his youth club West Bromwich Albion in the past season. With them he rose at the end of the 2007/08 season from the Football League Championship to the Premier League .

National team

Kiely has been a regular member of the Irish national team since 2000 . Mainly, however, he sat on the bench as a reserve player for international matches. With the Irish selection, the goalkeeper took part in the 2002 World Cup. There the team reached the round of 16 unbeaten, but then retired 4-3 after a penalty. Behind Shay Given as number 1, Kiely was not used.
