Dean Sylvester (born December 30, 1972 in Weymouth , Massachusetts ) is a retired American ice hockey player . During his career he played for the Buffalo Sabers and Atlanta Thrashers in the National Hockey League .

Career

Sylvester first played three years from 1991 to 1994 at Kent State University and for one year from 1994 to 1995 at Michigan State University in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . During this time he was selected in the 1993 NHL Supplemental Draft in second overall position by the San Jose Sharks .

After completing his college education, the right winger moved to the East Coast Hockey League for the Mobile Mysticks for the 1995/96 season , but was signed by the San Jose Sharks during the season. These used him in the following three seasons, however, exclusively in their farm team in the International Hockey League , the Kansas City Blades . But he never got to an NHL mission for the Sharks. Therefore, the American moved in the summer of 1998 as a free agent to the Buffalo Sabers , who initially only used him in the farm team, the Rochester Americans from the American Hockey League . Towards the end of the 1998/99 season he came to his first use in the NHL and was also used in four playoff games. Nevertheless, Sylvester was transferred to the newly founded Atlanta Thrashers in the summer of 1999 , where he was finally able to assert himself and came to a total of 95 appearances in the seasons 1999/2000 and 2000/01 . On June 25, 2001, he announced the end of his career.
