Skin (singer)
Skin (* 3. August 1967 as Deborah Anne Dyer in Brixton , London , England ) is an English singer . She is the front woman of Skunk Anansie and was also active as a solo artist and DJane at times .
Her stage name comes from her nickname since her youth and comes from the English word skinny , which means thin / lean.
Musical career
Skin's family is from Jamaica . As a singer trained in jazz , she values z. B. also Dionne Warwick and Stevie Wonder . She occasionally plays the vibraphone and theremin . In 1994 the band Skunk Anansie was formed with Skin as the lead singer. The band has released eight albums so far, Paranoid & Sunburnt , Stoosh , Post Orgasmic Chill , Smashes and Trashes , Wonderlustre , Black Traffic, An Acoustic Skunk Anansie Live in London and Anarchytecture .
Skin also works with other artists. In 1999, the joint work Licking Cream Band Sevendust was released as a single. In 2000, the single Carmen Queasy was released by Skin and Maxim . In the same year Skin recorded the song Meat with Tony Iommi and the single You Can't Find Peace with the band Pale3 .
After separating from Skunk Anansie in 2001, Skin continued to work as a solo artist. In 2003 her debut album Fleshwounds was released , which reached number 18 in the German charts. While the musical style of Skunk Anansie can be described as alternative rock , Skin relies on quieter ballads with this album. The songs Trashed , Faithfulness and Lost (together with Getting Away With It ) were released as singles .
In March 2006 her second album, Fake Chemical State , was released, which was very different from Fleshwounds and musically again had more rock and independent elements. The singles Alone in My Room and Just Let the Sun were released in advance .
In 2009 the reunion of Skunk Anansie took place.
In 2020 Skin took part in the first season of The Masked Singer as Duck , which she had to leave on February 1, 2020 in seventh place.
