Deep Sun is a symphonic power metal band from the canton of Aargau in Switzerland, founded in 2006, with vocals, keyboard melodies, guitar riffs and bass and drum combo. Deep Sun reached 11th place in the Swiss charts with their 3rd studio album Das Erbe der Welt .
history
Deep Sun was founded in 2006 by the two brothers Ermes and Eros Di Prisco, at that time under the name "1 Hour". When keyboardist Tom Hiebaum joined them in the same year, they changed the band name to “Deep Sun”. Tom Hiebaum gave the songs the symphonic touch and has shaped the music of Deep Sun with his compositions ever since. In August 2009 guitarist Pascal Töngi joined him, who has since provided the breaking guitar riffs with Eros Di Prisco (guitar) and the rocking part of Deep Sun with his compositions.
After a few changes of singers, the classically trained soprano Debora Lavagnolo joined the band in November 2009 .
In May 2010 they found a bass player in Angelo Salerno. Together with Tom Hiebaum and Pascal Töngi he established himself as one of the songwriters in the band.
The latest addition was in September 2011: Drummer Tobias Brutschi was available at short notice after the departure of drummer Ermes Di Prisco and has been a permanent member of the band ever since.
Over the next two years, Deep Sun played many concerts. In October 2013 they released the debut album Flight of the Phoenix , which was recorded in the Greenhorn Records recording studio in Schupfart . Subsequently, Deep Sun performed on the occasion of the Masters of Symphonic Metal in the concert hall Z-7 in Pratteln .
Further appearances in Switzerland followed, including as a support act at Eluveitie's concert in the Palazzo in Chur . During this time the second album, Race Against Time was created . This was produced with Markus Teske, the producer at Bazement Studios, and released in September 2016. The theme of this album was the element of time . The artwork came from Stefan Heilemann, who also created CD covers for Kamelot , Epica and Rhapsody of Fire .
In November 2016, Eros Di Prisco (guitar) decided to leave the band for personal reasons. The last still active founding member left the band. Deep Sun decided not to replace the position of rhythm guitarist and to continue with the line-up Debora Lavagnolo (vocals), Tom Hiebaum (keyboard), Pascal Töngi (guitar), Angelo Salerno (bass) and Tobias Brutschi (drums).
From 2017 Deep Sun appeared on stage with bands such as Sepultura (Metalacker, Tennenbronn, DE), Xandria (Hall of Fame, Wetzikon, CH) and again with Eluveitie (Charity Rocknight, Glattfelden ). The band organized the Swiss Metal Alliance Tour , during which Deep Sun toured the country with other Swiss heavy metal bands. The second edition of the tour started in autumn 2018.
In 2019 they produced, again together with Markus Teske, the third album, Das Erbe der Welt . Musically as well as lyrically it got a more modern, slightly futuristic touch. This album deals with the topic of artificial intelligence and its existence, development and progress in society. It reached 11th place in the Swiss charts and 1st place in the metal genre charts.
The band is known for their stage presence and the special stage outfits of the singer Debora Lavagnolo, which they have exclusively made by the Viennese tailor Barbara Pesendorfer, “Royal Black”.
The band has been under contract with the record label Massacre Records since 2018 .

Deep Sun's music is part of the symphonic power metal genre . It is very diverse and ranges from classic heavy metal to hard rock to orchestral film music in the style of symphonic metal. The sound of Deep Sun is shaped by the three main songwriters Tom Hiebaum, Angelo Salerno and Pascal Töngi, each of whom brings his own style; but also by the classically trained soprano voice of the singer Debora Lavagnolo. The texts are almost exclusively written by Debora Lavagnolo and deal with various topics of life in relation to existence, the development of mankind, the factor of time or fantasy stories.
